Legislation Changes – 2022

On March 7th, 2022, the Hon. Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure, introduced Bill 93, the Getting Ontario Connected Act.

The legislation facilitates major changes to how locates are delivered in Ontario, including much broader use of Dedicated Locator services. It supports several operational improvements meant to remove barriers to timely locate delivery. The legislation also improves and streamlines the compliance system and enhances Ontario One Call’s powers in this area.

Update:  On April 14th, 2022, Bill 93, Getting Ontario Connected Act received Royal Assent and passed into law.

Key Dates

  • March 7th – The Hon. Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure introduced, Bill 93, the Getting Ontario Connected Act, and the Ontario Legislative Assembly had their first reading of the Bill.
  • March 10th – Ontario Legislative Assembly had their second reading and debate of the Bill.
  • March 11th – Ontario One Call held a webinar with questions and answers to go over legislation changes with stakeholders.
  • March 23rd – Ontario Legislative Assembly continued debating Bill 93.
  • March 30th – Bill 93 under Consideration by the Standing Committee on General Government – invited stakeholders were asked to present.
  • April 6th – Standing Committee on General Government – Reported Bill 93 as amended and Ordered for Third Reading.
  • April 7th – last day to submit feedback to the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services through the Regulatory Registry – Click Here
  • April 11th – Ontario Legislative Assembly had their third reading.
  • April 14th – Bill 93, Getting Ontario Connect Act received Royal Assent.
