New Legislation and Webinar

New Ontario One Call Legislation and Upcoming Webinar

Dear Members, Excavators, and Stakeholders,

On March 7th, 2022, in the Ontario Legislature, the Hon. Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure introduced, Bill 93, the Getting Ontario Connected Act.

The legislation, if passed, would facilitate major changes to how locates are delivered in Ontario, including much broader use of Dedicated Locator services. It would support several operational improvements meant to remove barriers to timely locate delivery. The legislation also improves and streamlines the compliance system and enhances Ontario One Call’s powers in this area.

To help members, excavators and stakeholders understand the scope and importance of these changes, a webinar is being held on Friday, March 11th from 12 pm – 2 pm.

We strongly urge all of you to attend and encourage you to spread the word in your organization. This legislation emerged from a growing recognition of the need to make systematic improvements to locate delivery in Ontario, especially in the context of major initiatives such as broadband and transit expansion. To that end, In late 2021, a group of Ontario One Call members, excavators, stakeholders as well as officials from the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services got together and formed the Locate Solutions Working Group. This Working Group developed 27 recommendations, many of which are key parts of the legislation introduced today.

Please join us at Friday’s webinar as we explain the proposed changes and how they will drive changes to our industry both this year and beyond.
